Review on potential application of IoT technologies in transporting radioactive packages

The accumulation of spent nuclear fuel has led to an increased demand for the safe transportation of radioactive waste. Howev er, transporting these materials poses unique challenges related to safety and security. The integration of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies shows promise in enhancing the monitoring, tracking, and management of radioactive packages during transit. Despite this potential, there is currently limited explicit mention of IoT technologies specifically applied to the transportation of radioactive packages. This study investigates the potential uses of IoT in the transportation of radioactive packages, with a specific emphasis on real-time monitoring of environmental conditions, radiation levels, and package status. It explores the benefits of IoT-enabled sensors, data analytics, and communication systems in improving safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance during transportation. The study also addresses challenges such as data security, interoperability, and regulatory frameworks that need to be addressed for effective implementation. By adopting IoT technologies, personnel can effectively mitigate risks, streamline logistics, and ensure the secure transport of radioactive packages.
