Research progress on the application of artificial intelligence in oilfield exploration and development

As the complexity of oilfield development increases, traditional methods are gradually showing limitations in dealing with diverse data and complex decision-making processes. Artificial intelligence (AI) technology, with its excellent performance in data analysis and decision support, provides new solutions for oilfield development planning. This paper first analyzes the main challenges facing oilfield development planning and points out the shortcomings of traditional methods in difficulties caused by the limitations of the application of empirical formulae and the increasing complexity of geologic problems, etc. Then, the paper discusses the application of artificial intelligence in oilfield data analysis, including machine learning analysis of geological data, neural network prediction of production data, and integration of real-time monitoring and data analysis systems. Thereafter, the paper introduces decision support methods based on AI, such as optimization models, simulation techniques, and risk assessment and uncertainty management. Finally, this paper summarizes the results of the application of AI in oilfield development and looks forward to the future research direction. The research in this paper shows that the introduction of AI technology not only significantly improves the efficiency and accuracy of oilfield development planning, but also provides innovative ideas for addressing future challenges.
