Race-Neutral GFR Kidney Allocation Policy: Too Early to Tell
Introduction: The United Network for Organ Sharing recently mandated application of a race-neutral glomerular filtration rate (GFR) formula to determine qualifying waiting time (WT) for kidney transplant (KT), backdating WT to a GFR≤20 ml/min/1.73m2 for qualifying Black patients to offset possible delayed referral. However, not all Black patients qualify, nor do patients of other ethnicities who may be equally disadvantaged.
