Behandeling van stoornissen in het gebruik van voorgeschreven opioïden bij patiënten met chronische pijn
Treatment of prescription opioid use disorders in patients with chronic pain; a practitioner review Chronic pain (CP) affects one in five Dutch people, some of whom are prescribed opiates for this. Long-term use of opiates can result in more pain and the development of a prescription opioid use disorder (POD). This article provides an overview of effective psychological and behavioral therapy interventions and two examples of care programs for people with both CP and POD in the Netherlands. The paper takes the form of a practitioner review: an article aimed at informing healthcare providers about the treatment options for patients with both CP and POD, based on the current empirical evidence. For this target group, combined or integrated programs with motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and mindfulness interventions currently offer the best practices in the Netherlands. In addition to these various interventions, it is important for patients with CP and POD to invest in a preparatory trajectory prior to opioid reduction and treatment.
