Implementatie en impact van rookvrijbeleid binnen de verslavingszorg
Implementation and impact of smoke-free policies within addiction care: A scoping review Given the high prevalence of smokers within addiction care and the associated mortality and morbidity, support for smoking cessation is essential. This scoping review analyzes 39 studies since 2016 on the implementation and impact of smoke-free policies in addiction care. The prevalence of smokers ranges from 49% to 94%. Although evidence-based treatments, such as counseling and nicotine replacement therapies, are available, they only reach a limited number of clients. Other aspects of smoke-free policies, such as tobacco free grounds and staff training, have also been investigated. The effects of these measures on smoking cessation are variable. Barriers to successful smoke-free policies include the implementation and enforcement of tobacco free grounds, a strong smoking culture, and negative attitudes of both staff and clients towards smoking cessation during treatment. A comprehensive smoke-free policy, including treatment, client education, smoke-free premises, and consistent staff training, can be supportive, even in Dutch addiction care.
