Research on the publication utilization of prompt engineering technology

Publishing technology has enabled the production and dissemination of knowledge, and has served as a foundation for changes and innovations in social structures and cultural paradigms. Prompt engineering technology, a communication activity between humans and generative AI, is being utilized in core processes of publishing such as writing, editing, and design. This study deals with the expansion and evolution of publishing activities in which authors, editors, and designers interact with computers. In particular, it analyzes the utilization of prompt engineering technology. For this work, case studies and participant observation methods on ChatGPT and Midjourney were conducted and analyzed. The results of the study are as follows: First, generative AI utilizing prompt engineering technology enables qualitative expansion of creative and editing activities, and leads to innovation in production methods and democratization of publishing technology. Second, the expertise and creativity of authors, editors, and designers become more important, and open and flexible collaborative projects become the main method and model of publishing. Third, the democratization of publishing technology is expected to reveal the importance of publishing activities that integrate the creativity and expertise of authors, editors, and designers, and to activate author publishing, independent publishing, and project publishing.
