Saúde mental, nível de atividade física e composição corporal se associam de forma diferente entre homens e mulheres?

The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) started in 2019 and became a pandemic in 2020. Therefore, considerable changes have occurred in the routines of individuals due to social isolation. During this period, there was a reduction in physical activities and negative changes in body composition, factors that increase the risk of developing severe cases of COVID-19. Moreover, changes in mood state have been observed in men and women, which may be related to reported lifestyle habits. The aim of the study was to compare the mood state between men and women during the COVID-19 pandemic, investigating whether physical activity parameters and body composition are related to the mood state of men and women. Adults living in a city in the south of Brazil completed an electronic questionnaire, available on social networks and by e-mail, with questions about body mass and height (to calculate BMI), level of physical activity (IPAQ), change in body mass (by self-report) and mood (Brunel's Mood Scale). Associations were performed using multiple linear regression (Stepwise model). One hundred and fourteen responses were considered valid (66 - W; 48 – M). With the exception of anger, we observed that women had higher scores for negative mood states. Mood status was predicted in women by greater weight gain, high BMI, lower levels of physical activity, and having had COVID-19. Women seem to have a more negatively impacted mood state than men, and these parameters were predicted by lower levels of physical activity, increased body mass, higher BMI and having been contaminated by COVID-19.
