Storage-driven business models: unlocking grid hosting capacity
The current regulatory framework states that DSOs shall not own, develop, manage, or operate energy storage facilities. However, using BESS can be a crucial enabler to promote the increase of hosting capacity. This paper addresses a possible concept project being designed by E-REDES where a BESS is installed in a primary substation to enable the connection of additional solar PV power plant on its network without impacting the TSO while promoting benefits for the whole electric system. Currently, in Portugal, BESS solutions are being developed as co-located (behind-the-meter) to hybridise power plants.
