Inclusion of dynamic management of flexible electric vehicles in the network planning stage to increase hosting capacity

In this paper, we will present a planning methodology that considers the possibility of running an operation in which flexible assets are managed by coupling the planning stage with the network operation stage. The case study presented will focus on the determination of low voltage grid capacity by proposing a system that determines whether it is adequate or needs to be reinforced in a framework of massive deployment of electric vehicles (EVs). A novel planning methodology is proposed, integrating flexible asset management into network operation to determine grid capacity in the presence of EVs. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of controlled charging in alleviating transformer overloading and increasing hosting capacity. This research contributes insights for distribution system operators and policymakers in adapting to the evolving energy landscape.
