Decision support for system operators by inertia monitoring
In this paper, new system characteristics, system-operator challenges in terms of stability risks and resulting grid-calculation requirements in converter-dominated grids are summarized. A realization concept for a demonstrator is presented which allows for the system analysis and development of sophisticated decision support tools. For the relevant use case of an inertia monitoring tool, the concept is introduced taking the operators perspective into account including a discussion of relevant alternatives. Furthermore, a description of the integration of adequate concepts for the analysis of converter-dominated grids like e.g. EMT simulations is given. Resulting conditions, impediments and recommendations for system operators are discussed.
