Co-simulation approach to study of dynamics phenomena for renewables integration into distribution power systems

The paper examines the relevance, requirements and expected benefits of co-simulation to study the stability and reliability of distribution networks with components based on power electronics (renewable energy sources) in transient modes of operation. The rules and principles of adjusting and working with the co-simulation tool are given, depending on the features of the network model, as well as the research objectives. The main practical results of the study of the connection of a real solar power plant to the distribution network using the co-simulation tool are presented. Analysis of their adequacy indicates that the discussed approach of modelling for the study of transient modes of operation of distribution networks in power systems is very promising.

Abstract

The paper examines the relevance, requirements and expected benefits of co-simulation to study the stability and reliability of distribution networks with components based on power electronics (renewable energy sources) in transient modes of operation. The rules and principles of adjusting and working with the co-simulation tool are given, depending on the features of the network model, as well as the research objectives. The main practical results of the study of the connection of a real solar power plant to the distribution network using the co-simulation tool are presented. Analysis of their adequacy indicates that the discussed approach of modelling for the study of transient modes of operation of distribution networks in power systems is very promising.
