Wide-area distribution assessment to increase hosting capacity in an energy transition landscape
Today's distribution planners must prepare the distribution grid for the impact of new energy resources and electrified loads. This paper presents a framework for addressing these impacts by combining hosting capacity analysis with load/generation forecasts to identify grid-wide mitigation solutions. This framework aids distribution planning engineers in making informed decisions for near and long-term planning, prioritize mitigation strategies, and optimize the path towards the desired distribution system state. The efficiency of the framework supports planning efforts in meeting decarbonization and electrification targets in the utilities energy transition landscape.
