Technical solutions enabling network operation with high share of DER and dynamic loads in CEZ Distribuce (DSO)

The paper describes technical solutions and approaches supporting secure operation of distribution networks with distributed energy resources (DER) and dynamic loads. The solutions are implemented as business as usual by CEZ Distribuce, the largest DSO in the Czech Republic (with approx. 3.8 million supply points). The aim is to meet the growing number of customer requirements (especially in terms of DER connected to the distribution network) related to EU policy and National Action Plan for Smart Grids in the Czech Republic and still being able to operate distribution network safely with required power quality. The paper also discusses other measures for possible future network operation such as energy storage, non-firm connections, flexibility provision etc.
