Hosting capacity calculation across different voltage levels considering universal and local regulation-based technical constraints
The hosting capacity (HC) of additional distributed energy resources (DERs) integrated into the distribution grids is limited by multiple technical factors defined by international and national regulations. In this paper, a generic methodology for the HC calculation is presented considering the HC influence on other interconnected grids. The technical constraints include bounds for the voltage quality, and the loading of grid assets. Next, a specific use case based on the Spanish regulation is developed, considering various limits for the loading of grid assets, voltage quality, power capacity, and the short-circuit power ratio. For mesh grids, the unavailability of supply through N-1 analyses is also evaluated. It is evident that the HC is more realistically calculated due to the impact of interconnected grids, while the constraints of the Spanish regulation can restrict further the HC.
