Automation approach of RES hosting capacity estimation in the distribution network using PowerFactory software

This article presents the RES hosting capacity estimation Module which allow calculate maximum RES generation for each node of the distribution network, considering different simulation scenarios and requirements of the ‘(N-1) reliability criterion’ in DIgSILENT PowerFactory software. The Module solves two main tasks. The first task covers the calculation of the allowable RES value for selected terminals (nodes) of the network. The second task is concerned with the calculation of the maximum RES generation in the middle of each line (due to the possible connection of RES to the existing lines). The module can solve both tasks very quickly, simultaneously, or separately, depending on the users’ settings. Finally, the Module generates output files and tables with the detailed calculation results. This approach was realised using Python programming language.
