Empowering consumers through smart meter technology
Elenia, Finland's second largest distribution network operator, launched an innovative initiative called AinaLab. As a distribution network operator, Elenia operates mainly in rural areas, with 175 metres of network per customer. This experimental service utilizes next-generation smart meter technology to provide real-time measurement and insights into electricity consumption. Available free of charge to customers, AinaLab empower users to understand and optimize their energy usage. By focusing on agility and experimentation, customers are provided straightforward solutions without excessive fine-tuning times, and successful results are integrated into the customer's extranet, Elenia Aina. Users get detailed information about their home's electricity system, allowing them to make informed decisions to save energy and reduce their carbon footprint. Based on feedback from customers, the service is easy and straightforward to use. The broader objective is to improve the daily lives of customers while driving innovation in the energy sector, awaiting national demand response models.
