Utilizing electricity price signals for load control using smart meter
During the 2022 energy crisis, fixed-rate electricity prices surged, prompting a preference for spot electricity contracts. Consumers using spot electricity sought to shift consumption to cheaper hours. Traditionally many owners of electrically heated buildings in Finland have moved electricity heating to night hours (22-07) through electricity meters control signals, resulting in more affordable electricity prices. These users have requested DSOs to adjust controls to even later times, given the frequent high prices of electricity in the late evening hours.
