Operation and control challenges of BESS within distribution networks
The value proposition of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), based upon participation in the frequency-response market, capacity management and local balancing, has driven a very high penetration level in distribution networks across Great Britain (GB). This paper outlines some identified operation and control challenges of BESS within distribution networks. It explores and reviews different possible solutions to address those challenges and unlock additional hosting capacity, in order allow future Low Carbon Technology (LCT) growth and develop networks fit for the transition to Net Zero.
