Evaluation of business models to enable integrated local energy community use cases and provide customer value

The eNeuron project aims to develop a pioneering toolbox framework for the optimal design and operation of multi-carrier energy systems, such as integrated local energy communities based on the energy hub concept. In today's rapidly evolving business and regulatory landscape, the evaluation of business models has become a critical endeavor for stakeholders aiming to remain competitive and maximise their revenues. With the advent of technological advancements and changing customer expectations, stakeholders must continuously assess and adapt their business models to enable effective use cases. Business model evaluation serves as a strategic tool that can enable businesses to identify strengths and weaknesses, assess market viability, and capitalise on emerging opportunities. By comprehensively analysing and refining their business models, stakeholders can optimise their operations, drive innovation, and ultimately achieve sustainable success in an increasingly dynamic and interconnected world. This paper provides an overview of the approach developed and the steps that were carried out as part of the eNeuron project to develop and evaluate business models to facilitate the implementation of local energy community use cases. Examples of developed business models included local flexibility, co-operative heating, peak shifting, and hydrogen-based storage.
