Integration of heavy-duty trucks into the high-voltage grid
Current trends suggest that heavy-duty trucks will be at least partially replaced by battery-electric vehicles in the future. These vehicles place an additional burden on the electricity grid. This paper presents a method for positioning heavy-duty trucks in the power grid and determining the charging behaviour at the depot. The charging behaviour is determined by using stay profiles, which are generated by random draws based on historical mobility data. The influence of the grid integration of heavy-duty trucks on an exemplary German high-voltage grid is then analysed. This involves varying the number of heavy-duty trucks and the maximum permitted power per heavy-duty truck. The results show that the utilisation of the grid is significantly influenced by a high penetration of heavy-duty trucks. Depending on the charging strategy approach, power peaks can be prevented, thereby reducing grid utilisation.
