Probabilistic fatigue modeling using the strain energy concept
In the realm of structural integrity design, Notch fatigue analysis holds paramount importance. Despite its criticality, however, efficient fatigue models that seamlessly integrate notch and size effects remain elusive, making their development a highly sought-after pursuit, particularly in the design of vital components. Responding to this need, the current study presents a novel probabilistic fatigue model for lifespan evaluation. This model masterfully intertwines the weakest link theory with the strain energy (SE) concept, creating a harmonious union. To be precise, we introduce an innovative SE concept that seamlessly connects the experimental data pertaining to smooth specimens with the SE density of notched components, particularly within their critical damage zone. For the purpose of validation and an in-depth comparative analysis, we exploit experimental data from various alloys, each exhibiting unique geometrical configurations. The outcomes garnered from this rigorous examination indicate that our proposed model triumphs over the other two models, exhibiting remarkable accuracy. Additionally, the probabilistic curves provide an insightful and efficient depiction of the variance and scattering present in the experimental data, further strengthening the credibility of our findings.
