The effect of the blade damage on the dynamic characteristics of a centrifugal pump fluid

Due to prolonged operation, centrifugal pumps often experience wear and erosion on their blades caused by impurities and debr is impacting at high rotational speeds. To investigate the effects of blade damage on the dynamic characteristics of centrifugal pumps, a numerical simulation model based on the fluid dynamics of a centrifugal pump has been developed. The SST k−ω turbulence model is employed to characterize the flow field within the pump. The results indicate that damage to the blades leads to increased inhomogeneity and instability in the pressure and velocity fields within the flow field, particularly pronounced at the volute and outlet. Such conditions can diminish the pump head and overall efficiency. This study provides valuable numerical insights for fault diagnosis of centrifugal pump blades, as well as for their optimal design.
