CD11b Positive T Cells Demonstrate Belatacept Resistant Proliferation In Mixed Lymphocyte Reaction

Background: Renal transplant is the treatment of choice in end stage renal disease. Blockade of the CD40:CD154 (CD40L) costimulation pathway with an αCD154 antibody has previously been shown to inhibit alloreactive T cell response and induce long-term survival of allografts in non-human primate (NHP) models with survival >500 days; however, clinical translation of CD154-specific therapies has been challenged by association with thromboembolic events. Previous studies identified CD11b as an alternative receptor for CD154, with concomitant blockade of CD11b and CD40 reproducing survival benefit of αCD154 therapy in murine models.
