Identifying Plasma Biomarkers of Liver Cirrhosis Progression and Decompensation Using Top-Down Proteomics
Introduction: Cirrhosis affects 2-5 million Americans. While most have compensated cirrhosis, many decompensate and experience life-threatening complications, reducing life expectancy from 12 to less than 2 years. Identifying cirrhotic patients at high risk of decompensation is critical to optimize care and reduce morbidity and mortality. Non-invasive and reliable diagnostic tools are needed to identify and predict those at highest risk of disease progression.
