Cost of Normothermic Regional Perfusion vs Standard Rapid Recovery in DCD Liver Transplants: A Markov Decision Analysis
Introduction: Recent experience has heightened interest in utilizing normothermic regional perfusion (NRP) to increase organ yield following donation after circulatory death (DCD). Early data suggests that NRP reduces early allograft dysfunction and ischemic cholangiopathy compared to standard rapid recovery (SRR). However, there is scant literature evaluating the cost-effectiveness of NRP compared to SRR in recipients of DCD liver transplants with the additional cost of postoperative complications accounted for.
