Load Profile Estimation for Electric Power Load Analysis

With the recent growth of All-Electric ships, estimating the total electric power load has become increasingly important. Modern shipboard power system configurations are incorporating energy storage systems to enhance efficiency, creating challenges in sizing the generation stations due to their time-dependent nature. Accurate power profiles are essential for sizing, management strategies, and estimating ship operations. In particular, the necessity to have a more accurate load profile is more and more essential for vessel with storage systems. To address the need for electric power profile estimation for ships, in this paper, we present a method to estimate the power profile of ship loads based on deterministic Electric Power Load Analysis (EPLA) integrated with a Markov chain model. This method is applied to shipboard power system design and validated through comparison with field measurements.
