Robustness Assessment of Dual Vector Control in DFIM with Stator Flux Orientation for Clean Maritime Propulsion

This paper investigates the robustness of Dual Vector Control with Stator Flux Orientation (DVCSFO) applied to a uniquely designed Doubly Fed Induction Machine (DFIM) optimized for clean maritime propulsion. The DFIM, with a unity power ratio, ensures balanced power distribution between the stator and rotor, both driven by identical inverters. In the DVCSFO strategy, the DFIM fluxes are estimated using stator and rotor current measurements, as well as shaft angular velocities, within a parameterized DFIM model. However, the control strategy might exhibit sensitivity to variations in critical electrical (stator and rotor resistances and inductances) and mechanical (inertia and friction) parameters, which are influenced by temperature, frequency, and operating conditions. Cosimulations and experimental results were performed to evaluate the robustness of DVCSFO under these variations, demonstrating its effectiveness and applicability in real-world scenarios.
