Modeling and Control of a Direct Current Ferry Shipboard Power System
This paper presents a dynamic simulation model for a DC ferry shipboard power system utilizing Permanent Magnet-assisted Synchronous Reluctance Machine (PMSynRM) for the diesel genset and the propulsion systems. A battery storage system and advanced control strategies, were integrated with the model to ensure a stable DC bus voltage. Specifically, the battery storage supports the DC bus during rapid propulsion motor acceleration, by enhancing overall system performance and reliability. The study employs a comprehensive approach, including system-level configuration, dynamic modelling of primary components, and simulation case studies to evaluate system performance under various operational conditions. Results indicate that the integrated battery storage system and power control strategy effectively manage sudden power demands, ensuring stable operation of the common DC bus, while improving the overall performance and reliability of the ferry shipboard power system.
