The Static Phase Converter. A Solution to Reinforce the Power Supply of 25 kV/ 50Hz Railway Lines
Despite its benefits compared to its competitors, the 25 kV - 50 Hz railway electrification system suffers some drawbacks. In particular, it produces a voltage unbalance on the three-phase power grid, and adjacent substations cannot operate in parallel which prohibits power sharing. In critical cases, the implementation of a power electronic substation, hereinafter referred as Static Phase Converter (SPC), can be a solution. This paper focuses on the integration of a SPC on a sector of 25 kV railway line. Simulations are performed on a generic case.
