Enhancing Agricultural Efficiency and Sustainability in Panama: Solar Drying with Phase Change Materials
This paper presents a comprehensive review of the advancements in solar dryers and the application of phase change materials (PCMs) in the agricultural drying process. It examines various solar drying technologies, including direct, indirect, hybrid, and tunnel dryers, and underscores significant experimental studies and technological developments in each category. The review also explores various strategies for enhancing the performance of solar dryers, such as integrating heat exchangers and implementing advanced control systems. Special emphasis is placed on the role of PCMs in optimizing the drying process, analyzing their properties, energy efficiency benefits, and impact on the quality of the final product. By synthesizing the latest research, this paper provides valuable insights into the potential of solar dryers and PCMs to improve sustainability and efficiency in agricultural drying practices.
