Experiences and actions on Environmental Education in Solid Waste Management in Panama

Through a review of actors, programs, projects and publications of experiences in environmental education and solid waste, financed by SENACYT, the descriptive study presented here was carried out. The objective of this study was to identify the scope of various experiences in environmental education and solid waste carried out by academia, public institutions, and non-governmental organizations. The methodology used was the application of a multiple-choice questionnaire. The results allow us to identify the main focus of the various programs at the methodological level as ‘learning by doing‘. At the national level, important steps have been taken to establish environmental education and recycling experiences, but the development of an environmental education policy and a curriculum that allows educators, public institutions, and NGOs to manage the complexity and multifaceted nature of solid waste management is still pending.
