Economic quantification of the impacts attributable to the accelerated rise in sea level due to climate change in the coastal marine zone of the Eastern Pacific of Panama

The economic value of mangroves, calculated based on the products and services they provide, has been estimated by various authors. However, there is still no methodology that includes mangroves for the economic quantification of the financial impacts of mangroves. The economic value of mangroves, calculated based on the products and services they offer, has been estimated by various authors. However, there is still no methodology that includes mangroves for the economic quantification of the impacts attributable to accelerated sea level rise due to climate change, so the main objective of this study is to carry out this quantification using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools. From the results obtained, some 61 million balboas a year are being lost by not protecting the mangroves in the Eastern Pacific area alone, so it is clear that their conservation is of the utmost importance and that the activities to be developed in the coastal area must be adjusted to the natural characteristics of the site, seasonality, its adaptive capacity with the ecosystem and strategies for adaptation to climate change.
