Continuous Wireless Power Supply with Solid-State Transformers for a Bidirectional Integrated System in a Light EV Using In-Wheel PMSM

This paper analyzes a continuous wireless power transmission system for light electric vehicles (EVs), intending to reduce battery weight and provide new opportunities for electromobility. A bi-directional integrated system using solid-state transformers is proposed to complement actual power electronics devices integrated into an experimental platform and used as a reference. Thus, a bi-directional electric energy flow is enabled anytime, even when the vehicle is running. Subsystems were individually verified through simulations followed by comprehensive system testing under a normalized driving cycle, through simulations. A high degree of control was verified for all intermediary voltage levels in the system components in parallel with the respect of torque and speed requirements. The results show opportunities for further deeper research and give perspectives for future developments.
