Methodology to evaluate solar photovoltaic sources integration in an electrical grid

The integration of Renewable Energies changes the one-way paradigm of operation in electrical grids imposing new challenges for grid operators to understand the effects of local generation and reverse flows. In this study, a methodology to evaluate the impact through the Hosting Capacity term has been developed and implemented in San Andres Island’s power grid. The methodology is used to evaluate voltage indicators, showing some variations that could imply the need to adjust protection schemes to maintain the operation of the network.
