Tumor detection and diagnosis with transformer-based artificial intelligence
In Panama, malignant tumors are one of the leading causes of death, accounting for $16.3 \%$ of deaths in 2016, a decrease of $1.8 \%$ compared to 2012. However, between 2012 and 2022, the total reduction was only $3.1 \%$. This slow progress underscores the need for improved diagnostic and detection systems. With this project, a tumor diagnosis and detection system based on artificial intelligence was developed to reduce diagnosis time, increase accuracy and support specialists, addressing the high demand. Deep learning models and a dataset of labeled medical images were used. The system will combine image processing techniques and artificial intelligence algorithms to identify and diagnose tumors. The models developed in this project achieved great efficiency in time and accuracy by processing large amounts of data, which is very beneficial to reduce the demand for the early detection of benign and malignant tumors, specifically the models provide the area where the tumor is located and a brief diagnosis that determines tumor characteristics
