Water quality analysis through the comparison of physicochemical parameters and the use of macroinvertebrates in the microbasin of La Zanguenga creek
The study analyzed water quality by using physicochemical parameters and macroinvertebrates located in seven inter-basins of the La Zanguenga creek. The goal was to compare the effectiveness of each method. The monitoring took place over a 12-month period, where dry, transition and rainy seasons were considered. The results indicated that the water quality, as assessed through physicochemical parameters, reflected a moderate quality for the seven inter-basins of La Zanguenga Creek, with values ranging from 66.12 to 69.52. Conversely, the water quality, as assessed through the biological index (BMWP/PAN) presented very low values ranging from 8 to 21.8, signifying a polluted to very polluted state. These low biological index values can be attributed to environmental and anthropogenic disturbances in the study area. Overall, the results demonstrated that both methods complement each other, providing us with a more accurate and detailed analysis of the specific situation in the freshwater body, which has a positive impact on the environmental conditions required for each organism to thrive in a freshwater ecosystem.
