Stringent Design Requirements? No Problem!
Selecting an appropriate support of excavation type is usually controlled by the project requirements and the constraints posed by the site. For a design-build project in Alexandria, Va., an innovative soldier micropile and lagging wall system was selected for temporary support of excavations for construction of a Diversion Chamber structure and a sewer box culvert connecting the Diversion Chamber with an existing Siphon Chamber structure. The SMPL uses temporary micropiles as the soldier piles, and steel plates pushed in place as the lagging, to satisfy the stringent design requirements for the SOE, and the challenging conditions posed by the site.
