From Boxes to Bytes
Over the course of 90 years, the Ohio Department of Transportation accumulated more than 270,000 borings from approximately 21,000 projects, almost all of which were being “stored” in a hard-copy format, if they were being stored at all. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, as the interstate system in Ohio was being reconstructed at a rapid pace, access to these historic records was as important as ever for the planning and design of new systems. Unfortunately, finding and reusing these valuable historic documents was cumbersome, and only sporadically successful.
