BIM Object Partitioning System for Mixed Reality 4D Simulation

This study proposes and develops a BIM (Building Information Modeling) object segmentation and data conversion system to implement time-based 4D simulations in a Mixed Reality (MR) environment. The proposed system separates geometric and attribute information from BIM models and converts them into OBJ and CSV file formats, respectively, enabling their visualization in a Unity-based MR environment.A user interface (UI) was developed to allow users to manipulate the display and hiding of objects according to the project timeline, maximizing the intuitiveness of the 4D simulation. The developed system overcomes the limitations of conventional file format conversion and inefficiencies in data processing, improving the efficiency and productivity of construction project management by supporting time-specific process management, construction planning review, and real-time decision-making.This study provides a new direction for digital innovation in the construction industry through the integration of BIM and MR technologies and lays the groundwork for future research to enhance compatibility with diverse BIM data formats and MR devices while expanding its applications to various fields.
