Synthesis andBiologicalActivity of 2-[(1-biphenyl-4-methyl)amino]-9-[(2-hydroxyethoxy) methyl]-1H-purine-6(9H)-oneDerivative
The COVID-19 pandemic has put approximately 4.05 billion people worldwide, comprising nearly half of the global workforce, at risk of losing their income due to the viral infection. Acyclovir, a synthetic analogue of guanosine, has shown strong antiviral properties. It works by integrating into the viral DNA chain, thereby competitively inhibiting viral DNA polymerase. Researchers have developed acyclovir analogs, specifically substituted 2-[(1-biphenyl-4-methyl) amino]-9-[(2-hydroxyethoxy) methyl]-1H-purine-6(9H)-one derivatives, which have demonstrated excellent antibacterial activity against Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli cultures, as evident from their low Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) values.
