Synthesis and Characterization of Golden Snail Shell-Based Fluorapatite Via Precipitation and Solid-State Reaction Methods
The human body usually rejects the implant as foreign by the human body. It can be avoided by coating the implant with fluorapatite (FAp). One factor that influences the success of forming FAp is the synthesis method. This study used the precipitation method (FAp-P) and solid-state reaction (FAp-SS) to prepare FAp from golden snail shells. Sample preparation, synthesis of FAp, and characterization of FAp using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), and scanning X-ray energy-dispersive electron microscopy (SEM-EDX) are the three steps of the research process. Both methods yielded good crystallinity, according to XRD measurements. FAp-SS produces an FTIR spectrum that is closer to that of FAp than FAp-P. According to SEM findings, FAp-SS has a more homogeneous shape than FAp-P. The EDX results showed that the Ca/P FAp-P ratio was 1.84 with a P/F of 2.00, while the FAp- SS was 1.86 with a P/F of 2.94. FAp-SS ratio data close to Ca/P 1.67 and P/F 3.00 shows that the solid-state reaction approach is more comparable to standard FAp.
