Democratización del teatro hacia un territorio inclusivo: discapacidad cognitiva y experiencias teatrales para el desarrollo socioemocional y del pensamiento

Despite regulatory frameworks that protect the rights of people with disabilities, accessibility and participation in culture and the arts remain limited. This study employs a qualitative approach within the socio-critical paradigm and a Participatory Action Research design to interpret and evaluate proposals from participants, expert teachers, and the researcher regarding ways to democratize theater for people with cognitive disabilities. The goal is to move towards an inclusive environment that enhances socio-emotional learning, expression, and cognitive development. Information was collected from semi-structured interviews with a group of actors and actresses with disabilities, as well as theater teachers. This data facilitated the development of the Action Proposal for the Democratization of Theater. The findings revealed that theater can significantly improve the quality of life for people with cognitive disabilities by providing them with a space for expression, personal learning, and social development. Barriers to access and participation were identified, highlighting the urgency of promoting authentic representation and driving social change towards a more inclusive world.
