The Superblock: A Concept For the Habitability of the Urban Centrality, Alborada Guayaquil

Objective: The objective of this study is to determine the applicability of the superblock concept to enhance habitability in the zonal centrality in La Alborada, Guayaquil. Theoretical Framework: New concepts and strategies for the revitalization of depressed urban areas such as the superblock, economic dynamics through linear centrality, as well as the epistemological framework of public space as an articulator of human habitat are analyzed. Method: The methodology adopted is descriptive and correlational, using publicly accessible maps in GIS, to analyze the variable of public space in fourteen stages, which is contrasted with the parameters on which the superblock is based. Data collection was carried out through direct observation with photographic records and tabulation of land use data. Results and Discussion: The results obtained revealed that each stage is a superblock, in which residential use prevails, whose public spaces are ideal for generating continuity, connectivity and habitability, as opposed to the abandonment they have. Research Implications: This academic product constitutes the starting point to evaluate other sectors of the city under this methodology, generating a new line of proposals in the dimension of human habitat. Originality/Value: This study contributes to the deliverables of the Internal Competitive Fund Project of the University of Guayaquil, FCI-017-2021, "Study of macroblocks to face the post-covid according to the objective 11 of Sustainable Development of the UN Habitat, the Alborada Guayaquil".
