Effectiveness of Anti-Dusting in The Suppression of Fertilizer Dust Abstract
Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the anti-dusting additive in reducing dust formation during the application of granulated fertilizers, focusing on ammonium sulfate (SAM) and NPK (10-10-10). Theoretical Framework: Dust formation during the manufacturing, transportation, and handling of fertilizers represents an industrial challenge, compromising equipment efficiency and workplace safety. The use of anti-dusting additives has been identified as an effective solution to minimize this issue by promoting the adhesion of fine particles to mixers and reducing dust generation. Methods: Coating tests were conducted on granulated fertilizers (SAM and NPK 10-10-10) using a commercial anti-dusting additive. Quantitative analysis of dust formation was performed before and after the application of the additive, using standardized methods for the collection and measurement of suspended particles. Results and Discussion: The results demonstrated that the use of the anti-dusting additive was highly effective in reducing dust formation in granulated fertilizers. For ammonium sulfate (SAM), the reduction was approximately 86%, while for NPK (10-10-10), the effectiveness reached 88%. This significant reduction indicates that the additive successfully minimized dust dispersion. Research Implications:Confirming the effectiveness of the anti-dusting additive may influence industrial practices, encouraging its widespread adoption. This can improve occupational safety, extend equipment life, and enhance the final product quality. Ultimately, it may lead to reduced maintenance, lower health risks for workers, and increased industry competitiveness. Originality/Value: This research provides empirical evidence on dust control methods in the fertilizer industry, offering practical and reliable guidance for selecting anti-dusting solutions. By demonstrating the additive’s effectiveness, the study serves as an innovative and valuable reference for producers and industry professionals.
