Theoretical Aspects About Cooperativism and Associativism in Aquaculture

Objective: The work aims to analyze the contributions of cooperatives and associations in aquaculture. Theoretical Framework: Cooperativism for society is a way of helping to maintain productive activities, in view of this, we can mention agricultural cooperatives, present in some regions of the country, these cooperatives emerged due to the need of family farmers seeking to consolidate their activity (Andrade and Alves, 2013). Method: A systematic review was carried out in which publications on cooperativism and aquaculture available in the Web of Science databases were analyzed, in addition to the CAPES Catalog of theses and dissertations to identify the discussion of terms within Stricto Sensu programs. 12 articles were selected, with free access in English languages, which addressed the key words of this research in their work and 1 thesis and 1 dissertation related to the topic. Results and Discussion: Nine dimensions were identified that contribute to cooperativism and associations in aquaculture, namely: Information Management; Strengthening the Production Chain; Improve decision making; Support and Encouragement; Increased profits and production; Increased Efficiency of the Production Chain; Participatory Management; Vertical and Horizontal Integration; Sustainability. The results indicate that cooperatives facilitate access to technologies, credit and markets, promoting innovative and sustainable practices that increase the competitiveness of small producers. However, the study also highlights that some modern cooperatives may move away from the principles of solidarity and equity, focusing more on the market. Research Implications: Identify studies that address cooperativism and associations and how they contribute to the development of aquaculture. Originality/Value: This work contributes to theoretical deepening and provides a basis for discussions on aspects of cooperativism and associations in aquaculture.
