DISCOURSE AS A SPEECH SUBSTRATE OF A TEXT
The implicit ontological status of the discourse is made explicit. According to the author’s interpretation, it is not exclusively linguistic, speech or genre, since it is in the speech-thought register of the communicant. Its main metamorphoses from the medieval teachings of P. Abelard to our time, leading to the understanding of discourse as a hidden speech-thought category, are briefly examined. The arguments for this approach are mental code acts, a discursive matrix and internal speech, based on the mental lexicon and internal words that provide the text-generating potential of discourse. To understand these phenomena of text generation, the concepts of "verbal memory" and "inner word" are interpreted from the point of view of cognitive linguapoetics. The thesis is substantiated that in living discourse the mental word correlates with the properties and signs of the realities of a communicative event. When the correlations of the mental word and denotation are established by the communicant, internal words are updated in short-term memory, available for mental modeling of the corresponding communicative event and the selection of the sound image of what is born in the depths of the author’s soul necessary for the implementation of the plan. The very process of realizing the author’s plan, called the "torment of the word," represents the difficulty of choosing an internal verbal sign from what is in long-term semiotic memory for the most accurate, accurate and expressive explication of the author’s thoughts and experienced emotions. Ultimately, text generation is carried out through internal programming, during which the experience of a perceived communicative event generates its onomasiological impulses in the mental lexicon, which, with the help of semantic cases, translate the semantic combination of internal words into linear patterns of generated utterances.
