The article exposes the necessity to define ‘political future’ and ‘contemporary turbulence’ in the context of the future of the Republic of Armenia. By linking geopolitical turbulence and uncertainties to political realities, the article builds its theoretical basis on the scarce existing literature deepening the conceptual foundation of the concept of political future. At the same time, it is arguably the first attempt to define ‘political future’ as a political science term in the Armenian context. In addition, the article attempts to put the future studies in the bigger picture of internal and external political dynamics. First, it briefly discusses various narratives about the future. Second, it discusses polycentrism and its implications for the future. Third, it discusses digital, global and civil dimensions of political future. Finally, it suggests the concept of ‘silent development’ as a solution to the multiplicity of risks posed by contemporary turbulence. Overall, the article is aimed at the development of a polycentric approach to future studies in which alternative notions of world orders are accepted as legitimate and necessary.
