Organization of the sanitary and veterinary supervision system in the Terek region in the second half of the 19th – early 20th centuries
The article is devoted to the study of historical features of the process of organizing sanitary and veterinary control in the Terek region in the second half of the 19th – early 20th centuries. Frequent occurrence of large-scale epizootics in livestock farms of the region significantly slowed down the development of livestock as one of the most important sectors of the economy. The situation required government intervention, since the livestock owners themselves were extremely helpless in the face of the threat of losing their livestock. It was thanks to the efforts of the government that it was possible to competently organize the system of sanitary and veterinary supervision, preserve the livestock industry and direct its further development along a progressive path. The purpose of the study is to study the process of organizing sanitary and veterinary supervision in the Terek region in the second half of the 19th – early 20th centuries and to identify the most effective measures to counteract livestock losses from large-scale epizootics. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to establish cause-and-effect relationships for the occurrence of an epizootic threat in the Terek region during this period, and to determine a set of acceptable methods for combating epidemic diseases in livestock farms. The methodological basis of the work was formed by the system-structural, comparative-historical methods, principles of historicism, objectivity and integrity. The study is largely based on the material of archival sources and periodicals of the specified period.
