Comparative Study on Using Steel and Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer Rebars as Reinforcement on Flexural Behavior of Concrete Beams
Research in this area compares the flexural behaviour of steel-reinforced concrete beams with that of beams reinforced with GFRP. The use of glass fibre reinforced plastic (GFRP) rebars as a substitute for conventional steel reinforcement has attracted much interest due to the rising need for long-lasting and environmentally friendly building supplies. This research examines the mechanical behaviour of flexural loaded concrete beams reinforced with steel and Glass Fibre Reinforced Plastic (GFRP) rebars. The concrete beams were subjected to experimental testing with different steel-to-GFRP rebar reinforcing ratios. The load-deflection responses of the beams were recorded after subjecting them to flexural stress till failure. The research examines important characteristics of the steel and GFRP rebar-reinforced beams, including their load carrying capability, deflection behaviour, crack propagation, and failure mechanisms. We learn more about the structural behaviour and performance of concrete beams reinforced with GFRP rebars and steel rebars from the comparative study. The research also compares and contrasts the use of standard steel reinforcement with that of glass fibre reinforced plastic (GFRP) rebars in concrete buildings, outlining the benefits and drawbacks of each. It is clear from the results that GFRPrebars are a viable and efficient substitute for traditional reinforcing materials in concrete projects.
