Effects of Organizational Psychological Safety Climate on Safety Behavior in the Contexts of Construction Workers - Multiple Additive Moderation Effects of Job Stressors and Physical Hazard Factors
Background: Occupational accidents are prevalent in the construction industry due to its high-risk nature. Understanding relationships among psychological safety climate, job stressors, and physical risk factors is crucial for fostering workers' safety behavior. Methods: This study examined how the psychological safety climate affects workers' safety behavior, with job stressors and physical risks as moderating factors. Data were collected from KOSHA's Occupational Safety and Health Survey focusing on construction workers. Results: The psychological safety climate is positively related to safety behavior. Job stressors moderated their relationship. Specifically, the effect was weakened when the level of job stressors was high. The moderating effect of physical risk factors on their relationship was not significant. Conclusion: The psychological safety climate is crucial for enhancing safety behavior among construction workers. Managing job stressors is necessary to strengthen this relationship. Furthermore, future research should consider various factors that might influence the relationship between psychological safety climate and safety behavior.
